This is a mindset, more than an actual goal. We have close to 2.5 acres in West Marin. One acre is in the “building envelope”; the rest we could farm if we wanted. We don’t want that; we like the buffer. However, a lot can happen in an acre. We have about 8 mature fruit trees, and a couple of “edible” planting areas. Then there is the native landscape that surrounds us that previous native inhabitants surely knew how to use to their advantage. We are relearning some of this as we go. The cover photo is sauteed candycap mushrooms, harvested from the “mushroom” trail into the seashore above our house, on vanilla ice cream, yum!
