I always start too early. I like plants. The rain should be coming soon, but it seems like maybe it’s all going to the east coast. Still, I bought plants, and will have to set them up with some plant nannies while I’m gone this fall. Thankfully I’m not gone for too long a period until Christmastime.
I went to Oaktown Nursery in Berkeley and found some Cinquefoils to try as ground covers, a few more regular ones for the lawn border and 6 “sticky” ones for behind the cauldron. I also bought my first Aquelegia formosa (CA Columbine). These like it wet and/or shady. I have a pretty good spot above the back yard Cistus. I also got 3 of the new hybrid Woolly Bluecurls (Trichostema lanatum). These are spread around and shouldn’t need much care after this fall.
One a second trip, over to East Bay Wilds, I got 2 Bacharis, such a stellar (though somewhat boring) performer, a Snowberry and a Burkinia. This last plant has replaced the perpetually dying azalea in the deck pot.
